In the Field with Frederick Landscaping- April Newsletter
April is here, and with it comes one of the busiest and most important times of the year for your landscape. As temperatures rise and the ground fully thaws, your lawn and planting beds are waking up—and what you do now sets the tone for the entire season ahead.
What We’re Seeing in the Field
Our crews are officially in full spring cleanup mode. We’re clearing winter debris, redefining bed edges, refreshing mulch, and getting properties back into shape after a long winter. You may also notice early weed growth and patchy lawns—this is completely normal for April.
April Lawn & Landscape Tips

- Don’t Skip Spring Cleanup
Removing leaves, sticks, and buildup allows your lawn to breathe and prevents mold and disease. Clean beds also give plants the space they need to emerge properly. - Mulch Matters
Fresh mulch not only improves curb appeal but also helps retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds. Aim for a 2–3 inch layer—too much can actually harm plants. - Tackle Weeds Early
Weeds are much easier to control now than in the summer. Pre-emergent treatments and early hand-pulling go a long way in keeping beds manageable. - Lawn Repair &Seeding
Bare or damaged areas should be addressed early. April is a great time for seeding and light lawn repair before the heat of summer sets in. - Pruning & Plant Care
Now is the time to cut back certain shrubs (like roses) and remove any winter damage. Proper pruning encourages healthy growth and better blooms.
